Dallas Stars goaltending coach Mike Valley brings world class instruction to Vancouver

Marty Turco, Niklas Backstrom, Brian Elliott and Kari Lehtonen are among the top goaltenders in the world and have all benefitted from the most modern methods of goaltending training available through NHL goaltending coach Mike Valley. Last season, Valley worked with the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL and was hired by the Dallas Stars this past summer. Valley has 16 years coaching experience, filled with endorsements like this from Niklas Backstom “his methodologies and communication style makes him one of the top young goalie coaches in the game.”  Now he has committed to bringing a “pro-level experience” to minor hockey, Junior and College goaltenders in the Lower Mainland.

“These high performance goaltending and prospects camps bring a unique and professional approach to goaltending development” said Valley, “the camps are designed to be much more exclusive, have a high attention to detail (choice of 1 on 2 or 1 on 3 instruction) and bring out the best in every goaltender through a curriculum that expedites the skill development and mental toughness needed to be a top level prospect. The key learning and refinement phase for goaltenders are ages 11 through 18, so customized training, ongoing assessments, and succession planning becomes crucial for developing goalies.”

In order to accomplish these goals, you need a professional staff that is committed to the plan and have a history of success while playing, coaching or both. Pasco Valana, a professional goaltending coach based in the Lower Mainland who works with an exclusive number of goaltenders and has an exceptional performance conversion ratio. Last season, 3 of Valana’s clients won league championships at the Junior A, College and Professional ranks. His resume of 41 NCAA players, 2 US National Team Members and 10 NHL Draft Choices made him an easy choice. “I am extremely excited about working with the team that we have assembled, the commitment, the  experience and accomplishments is going to directly benefit every goaltender that attends” says Valana. Another easy selection for the team is former professional goaltender and Olympian Dusty Imoo. A tremendous goaltender with strong mental toughness and a lengthy pro career who has a sincere interest in working with goalies who are absolutely committed to being the best that they can be. Dusty is currently the goaltending coach for the Surrey Eagles of the BCHL.

July 26-30th Top Prospects Camp: a 5 day camp open to Midget Rep, Junior, Major Junior and  College goaltenders looking to prepare themselves for the next stage of their career. This camp includes 10 on ice sessions, lectures, video and  physical training designed to sharpen the most modern technical, tactical and mental skill sets that are needed to excel in the Junior, Major Junior, College and Pro Ranks.

August 1st -4th High Performance Camp: an intense 4 day camp includes 8 on ice sessions, lectures, video and  physical training that zeros in the complete mastery of skills required to be a standout at the Rep, Elite Midget and Junior Levels. Players at this age are at the most important developmental years of their careers and this camp paves the way for success.

State of the art technology: Each goaltender will have access to the Elite Staff long after the camp is over. Mike Valley and Pasco Valana have been working together with former National Hockey League goaltender Steve Shields on a state of the art, online video coaching tool. The program enables them to meet with their goaltenders, watch their video imultaneously, mark it up, and record that lesson from a remote location anywhere in the world. “this software will begin a new chapter in cutting edge sports technology and we are proud to share this work with our clients  and soon, the world."
